Alaine to set the stage at all-women DJ bashment

Excitement builds on Anguilla as the date approaches for the Lady P***ion birthday bashment, Women Invasion Girl Power event. The guest artiste for the grand event is international reggae superstar Alaine Laughton out of Jamaica. Alaine is known for her melodious golden voice capturing the hearts of many with hit songs such as No Ordinary Love, Deeper Sacrifice, Rise in Love, Dreaming of You featuring Beenie Man, Give You and many more. Songbird Alaine was nominated as best female vocalist at the 2008 International Reggae World Music Awards. The all-women DJ bashment extravanganza will also be showcasing the talent of women disc jockeys from Anguilla, Antigua, Barbados, St. Maarten, Jamaica and St. Kitts.

Six women will present their music and hosting repertoire. The artistes for the grand event are some of the Caribbean’s top female radio personalities and club DJs – DJ Lady P***ion, DJ Lady Destiny, DJ Sunshine, DJ Hurricane, Selecta DD of Sistah SoulJahs and Sister Sensia. To add to the excitement of the event, with over 35 years experience in the deejaying business, DJ Rubie of St. Maarten will appear as a special guest DJ. The musical events will take place tonight at the Red Dragon night club. The idea for a women-only DJ bashment came from DJ Lady P***ion (Desiree Richardson) who wants to put women DJs in the limelight.

“I wanted to put the spotlight on female DJs in the area. My aim was to provide them with the opportunity to get exposure and develop their talent. Most of the artists are radio personalities and some are now also exploring their talent through performing at music clubs. This event is an excellent platform for the ladies to make their mark,” she said.

Lady P***ion is one of the most popular radio personalities in Anguilla. Anchored at Kool FM 103 Radio, she created and hosts her own show called “The Love Zone” which focusses on offering relationship advice interspersed with love music. Another popular show is "Caribbean Link Up", where she conducts telephone interviews of popular international artists. These shows achieve high audience ratings and participation. Being a lover of all types of music P***ion combines her voice talent with her dynamic personality and achieves great success as a radio artist.
