ANNUAL LEEWARD ISLAND CALYPSO COMPETITION - Democrat Newspaper

Four Calypsonians from the Federation participated in the Annual Leeward Islands Calypso Competition, held at the Landsome Bowl, The Valley, Anguilla as part of that islands’ annual carnival celebrations.

They were King Konris representing St. Kitts, King Dis and Dat of Nevis, The Mighty Spade of Sandy Point but who represented St. Thomas U.S.V.I. and former calypso king of St. Kitts, The Mighty Pat who represented St. Croix U.S.V.I.

Although none of them won the judges approval in the final three, they all performed with distinction and won the admiration of both the audience as well as the calypso commentators from the various Radio Stations which carried the show live.

The Mighty Bear of Antigua was crowned King, while Anguilla’s King Dynamite came in second. Third position went to the Mighty Makissa of Tortola, B.V.I.

The judges were from St. Lucia and St. Vincent.
