CASTRIES, St Lucia: On Thursday, St Lucia was shaken by an earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale, with the epicenter located east of Martinique.
While driving towards the north of the island, this reporter felt the vehicle rocking as if it had been hit from the back by another vehicle. People were running in all directions, items were scattered on the floors of the various business places and broken gl*** bottles could also be seen along the supermarket aisles.
Paramedics were out in full force stabilising people who suffered panic attacks or fainted as a result of the tremor. Structural damages could also be seen on some buildings. During and immediately after the tremor communications via both land and cellular phones was impossible to various parts of the island for a short period of time.
Caribbean Net News spoke with some residents who said that they did not panic, some prayed, others sought shelter beneath desks or tables and others were screaming. Business places were not the only places affected, households were also littered with fallen items.
