No changes in team as Antigua prepare to face Anguilla
No changes in team as Antigua prepare to face Anguilla
Thursday September 06 2007 Antigua and Barbuda has named an unchanged side for their next series of Leeward Islands Cricket ***ociation’s (LICA) tournament matches away in Anguilla and St. Maarten. Coach Hayden “Sharlo” Walsh said the 14-member squad selected for the opening games against Montserrat has been retained. It means experienced pacer Adam Sanford and captain and middle-order batsman Ian Tittle are back to full fitness after missing Sunday’s Nagico Insurance one-day match against Montserrat at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground due to niggling injuries. Tittle missed out when he scored only one, while Stanford claimed four wickets in Antigua and Barbuda’s innings and 178-run victory over Montserrat in their opening three-day encounter last week. Antigua and Barbuda will face Anguilla in the three-day encounter today and both sides will clash in the one-day affair on Sunday. The Antiguans will then face host St. Maarten in the third round of three-day tournament from 13-15 Sept., before both sides clash in the one-dayer on 16 Sept. Coach Walsh said Antigua and Barbuda will take each game one day at a time and will take no team for granted. Walsh said once his team achieve the goals set, Antigua and Barbuda should emerge victorious. With a game in hand, Antigua and Barbuda are third in the three-day standings with 12 points while Anguilla are second on 15 points, three adrift of leaders and defending champions St. Kitts. St. Kitts and the Combined Virgin Islands are joint leaders of the NAGICO One-Day Tournament with four points each, while defending champions Antigua and Barbuda have two points after one outing. Also this weekend Nevis are hosting Montserrat and the Combined Virgin Islands will be at home against St. Kitts. Antigua squad: Ian Tittle (Captain), Devon Thomas (Vice-Captain), Adam Sanford, Kelvin Bowens, Michael Challenger, Orlando Peters, Gavin Williams, Justin Athanaze, Kerry Mentore, Anthony Martin, Chad Hampson, Larry Joseph, Stephan Matthew and Javid Charles. Hayden Walsh (Coach); Earl Waldron (Manager). |
