The Optimist Club of B***eterre Opens its Doors - Democrat Newspaper
The Optimist Club of B***eterre, which became a chartered member Of Optimist International''s District 13 in July 2004, which presently includes Anguilla, the biggest club in this district, Tortola, Nevis and most recently, St Maarten, has re – emerged as a vibrant, forward moving non - governmental organization.
The fundamental purpose of the Optimist Club is not only to look after the welfare of all children, but to bring out the very best in our community''s youth, whether this is in education, social affairs or looking directly at the positive future of our youth as leaders.
Some of the projects that the Optimist Club of B***eterre has implemented to enhance our young people''s mental and social strengths include an annual oratorical contest, which develops public speaking as a means of improving communication skills. Providing school material for children as well as visiting them at their homes are other projects that have been implemented and are ongoing.
The general membership of the club includes a cross section of persons from the age of 18, concerned with seeing our youth elevate, promote and advance themselves and the communities where they live.
Just as the Club promotes the forward movement and thinking of the youth which are the club''s core, Optimist offers its members not just a social and working relationship with their peers, sharing and manifesting ideas through projects, but also opportunities to demonstrate leadership and social skills locally, regionally and internationally.
As part of the creed states for both members and those they serve having “to be strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind" are wise words to be given to anyone who wants to be "too large for worry, to noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble."
As Optimist President Mrs. Bernadette Dolphin says, with optimism, "the future is bright, once we care and work for this wonderful cause."
