Under-20 women to face Canadian university - The Nation Newspaper
THE NATIONAL UNDER-20 WOMEN'S FOOTBALL TEAM will get a chance to showcase their skills this week in a two-match goodwill series against a Canadian university team.
On Thursday, at 6 p.m., the Bajans will oppose McGill University in the first match at the National Stadium before wrapping up the series on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the same venue. The series will provide the Under-20 girls with much welcome practice as they prepare for their first tournament outing in international football. Barbados will participate in the FIFA Women's Under-20 Qualifying Tournament in Cuba in August when they will play against the host country, Antigua and the winner of the St Kitts/Nevis versus Anguilla play-off series. That tournament is set for August 5 to 12 and the winner will qualify for the CONCACAF Under-20 Women's Finals. Former national men's senior team coach Edward Smith and Richard Forde are coaching the Barbados women's Under-20 team, which is managed by Ytannia Wiggins and Sasha Sutherland. Barbadians are urged to come out in their blue and gold to support the girls. (EZS) More... |
