1st WC Match --WI vs Pakistan

The real World Cup action begun sometime back with the home team taking on the unpredictable Pakistani side which is greatly handicapped by the absence of their main strike bowler Shoib Akhtar.

Winning the TOSS --PPakistani captain Inzamam Ul Haq decided to invite WI first to take the guard and his decision proved right when Chris Gayle was caught for 2 by Kamran Akmal off the bowling of Umar Gul with the total being 7.

Ramnaresh Sarwan and Chanderpaul built a partnership of 53 --but Chanderpaul's batting was too slow. Finally he departed with the score being 61 --for 19 off 63 balls.

Sarwan soon followed him and there were two new batsmen at the crease with Brian Lara and marlon Samuels. These two adopted a counter attack approach --specially Samuels hammering the ever probing Rao Ifthikar to a huge over boundary and a boundary in consecutive balls. The momentum have shifted towards the home team since then and presently, Lara and Samuels are hammering the Pakistani bowling to all corners of the Sabina Park.
The Score--

148/3 -- 38 overs.

Re: 1st WC Match --WI vs Pakistan

The latest update---

WI has finished its innings with a competitive total of 241/9 with C. Collymore hammering the last ball to a huge six.

It is a very good performance by the WI late order as there was a time when it seemed the home team could not even cross 200. But the momentum gathered by Lara and Samuels and then a cameo knock of 32 off 15 balls by Dwayne Smith bolstered the score towards the end and dashed Pakistan's hope of restricting the home team

It will be quite difficult for Pakistan to score these runs and all their major batsmen have to fire on all cylinders to topple the score.
