As part of its educational voyage to countries of the Caribbean, the Gli Gli docked at the shores of St. Kitts yesterday.
As it approached the B***eterre Marina, the anxious crowd, that was made up of hundreds of school children and other onlookers, erupted in spontaneous applause welcoming the canoe’s Carib crew.
The Gli Gli, which is a 35’ dug out Carib canoe, embarked on a Leeward Islands expedition to inform the locals of these islands of the existence of Caribs and remind them of their way of life and art forms.
The canoe began its voyage in Antigua and has made a stop in Nevis with St. Kitts being the second stop. From St. Kitts the canoe will sail to St. Barths. It will make stops as St. Maarten, St. Martin,
Anguilla and the British Virgin Islands.
While in St. Kitts, the Caribs will expose their traditions and culture to the people of the island. Last evening, there was a presentation at the St. Christopher Heritage Society and today, they will be visiting schools around the island as well as the petroglyphs at Bloody Point.
The Gli Gli leaves the island Saturday for St. Barths.
